Shaggy purple fur, an orange ribbed belly and two small horns among the fringes: the Ratschepü the Dragon hand puppet by Living Puppets is a dragon whose temperament shows. His favourite place is the roller rink, and that momentum carries straight into play — Ratschepü talks fast, interrupts and changes his mind. For children who are loud and quick themselves, that is a rewarding part to play. In nurseries and primary schools a dragon hand puppet also works well for talking about anger without singling out any one child.
The mouth works on the fold-open principle. The hand opening sits on the underside and is cut so that children and adults alike can guide Ratschepü securely. The arms are part of the costume and are not worked by hand.
Dragons appear in almost every culture, though with very different reputations.
