Description
A large figure stays at home, but the Sterntaler finger puppet donkey fits in a coat pocket: grey plush with cream-coloured hooves and small suggested legs. This little figure keeps your child company on train journeys or in the doctor’s waiting room.
The domestic donkey (Equus asinus) is known among pack and riding animals for being remarkably sure-footed. On rough, stony ground it places its small, hard hooves carefully, step by step. Add to that a striking memory: donkeys recognise places and other donkeys even after many years. In the sparse, open landscape their wild ancestors came from, donkeys tend to live spread out rather than in the tight herds horses form.
Did you know that a donkey’s supposed stubbornness is, scientists say, really caution? A horse flees first and asks questions later, while a donkey stops and assesses the situation. That behaviour saves lives on rough ground but is easily mistaken for refusal at the end of a lead rope.
