Care and Cleaning Guide for Sterntaler Hand Puppets and Finger Puppets

Sterntaler hand puppets and finger puppets are often used intensively during play, storytelling and imaginative performances. They are suitable for use at home as well as in nurseries, schools and educational settings. As they are machine washable, the puppets can be cleaned easily and thoroughly whenever required.

According to Sterntaler's care information, hand puppets and finger puppets may be machine washed at 40 °C on a normal wash cycle. The following guidance is based on the manufacturer's product information and care labels.

Machine wash at 40 °C

Sterntaler hand puppets and finger puppets may be washed at 40 °C on a normal wash cycle. This straightforward method of cleaning is particularly useful when the puppets are regularly handled by children or frequently taken to nursery, school or on journeys.

Always check the sewn-in care label of the individual puppet before washing. Should the label show different instructions, the information attached to the particular product takes priority.

Before washing

Check the puppet for loose parts or damaged seams before placing it in the washing machine. Where possible, repair any small areas of damage before washing to prevent them from becoming worse during the cycle.

Wash the puppet with similar colours to reduce the risk of colour transfer.

Do not bleach or dry clean

Sterntaler states that its hand puppets and finger puppets must not be bleached. Do not use bleach or laundry additives containing bleaching agents.

The puppets are also not suitable for professional dry cleaning.

Do not iron

Sterntaler hand puppets and finger puppets must not be ironed. Heat and pressure may damage the plush fabrics, filling or decorative details.

Allow to air dry

The puppets must not be tumble dried. Allow the hand puppet or finger puppet to air dry completely after washing.

Gently return the puppet to its original shape and leave it in a well-ventilated place to dry. Do not use or store the puppet again until it is completely dry.
