Punch and Judy Policeman Hand Puppet - munabo ART

The Policeman: a Punch and Judy hand puppet from the munabo ART series. The Policeman hand puppet wears a blue peaked cap, a light blue uniform shirt and a black tie, with a friendly face below the cap. The soft fabric head is shaped and embroidered by hand and the face then hand-painted, so no two policemen smile quite alike. The figure is light enough for children's hands and comfortable for adults too. It comes from a traditional craft workshop in the Czech Republic.

The policeman is the one who keeps order in a German Kasper show. He often turns up a little late: the children have long since spotted where the robber is hiding. That makes him a character the audience loves to join in with, shouting “Over there!” to help him. Once the robber is caught, the policeman marches him off. He also deals with everything that goes wrong in daily life, from a lost key to a row between neighbours. So he fits a fairy tale just as well as a story set in your own neighbourhood.

Did you know that the policeman usually has a far easier time in a Kasper show than in Punch and Judy? Kasper is Mr Punch's German cousin, yet in the English show Mr Punch sees the policeman off with his stick while the audience cheers. On German Kasper stages today the policeman is on Kasper's side and puts the robber behind bars.
